With the right business finance solution, Matters of Taste Cooking School was able to purchase a new commercial property and grow its business.

Matters of Taste is a Perth cooking school teaching individuals, corporate groups and kids to feel confident, inspired and excited about cooking. The successful cooking school was established 20 years ago, operating out of premises in Bicton.

Earlier this year, the opportunity arose for Matters of Taste to purchase a new commercial property which would provide newer, larger and better premises, and allow the business to grow.

The business owners approached their regular bank to fund the new commercial property. However, their bank was unable to assist them due to previously structured financial reporting. The owners had recently changed accounting firms and had a new financial structure which was more tax effective. Furthermore the bank was reluctant to place weight on forecasts which more appropriately reflected the ongoing position of the business.

The business owners were referred to Michael Cane at Westminster National. Michael worked with the owner, their accountant and an experienced banker to fully and better understand the financial data and risks. Westminster National presented the position to a new bank, which took the time to understand the transaction and the business, and completed a more detailed forward looking risk assessment.

As a result, Matters of Taste received the finance they needed to purchase their new premises. Matters of Taste has recently re-opened in its new premises and continues to grow from strength to strength!

Different lenders have  different risk policies and approaches to assessing applications for business finance. Levels of experience and service also varies between individual bankers. So, in order to find you the right Lender for your business, it’s essential to have a finance broker that understands your needs as well as the individual requirements of each lender.
